We recently completed a job in Cheadle Hulme fitting new carpet up the stairs and on the landing of a house. Laying a carpet on a stairs is not easy and so it is always good to get a professional carpet fitter in Stockport to do it.
We decided to start with the stairs and landing so removed the existing carpet and disposed of it, along with the old underlay, tacks, nails and staples etc, so that we had a completely clear surface to work with. The next step was to fit the grippers to the tread of the stair and the riser and cut them out to just short of the width of the stairs and then put down underlay.
A good underlay is essential. Remember that a carpet is only as good as its underlay. This is because it makes the carpet last longer, it’s also more comfortable to walk on and provides better sound insulation which is especially important when people are regularly walking up and downstairs. Without it, it can sometimes sound like a herd of elephants is passing through your home!
Once the underlay was firmly in place using grippers, we then installed the carpet, tacking it to the bottom of the first riser and then pulling the carpet up over he first step and then repeating the process. Our clients opted for a Cheshire Twist carpet in a natural looking grey colour. As an Amtico fitter in Stockport we were also able install a brand new Amtico floor in the small hallway. We applied a screed over the base and then using three different colours we used the tiles to create a herringbone pattern. You can see the beautiful effect that this created as well as the carpet from the photographs included. You can create a dynamic, bespoke look, even in a small space! It perfectly complimented the colour of the stair carpet too!
