New Amtico flooring fitted in Stockport

No Job is Too Challenging for Cheadle Floors your Amtico Fitter in Stockport!

Sometimes things aren’t always as they seem, and it takes a professional floor fitter with years of experience to know what to do when faced with floor laying challenges!

Cheadle Floors were recently asked to fit new flooring in the kitchen/living area of a house in Stockport. As part of the preparation process, we started by removing the old existing laminates. It was at this point that we uncovered old quarry tiles that had been originally laid, probably at the same time as the house was built. As is common with the type of flooring and typical of the time it was laid, the tiles had been put directly onto soil, so this raised potential issues with damp if we put the new flooring directly onto it. As a result, we had to install a Jumpax system.

The Jumpax dual underlay system comprises of a base sheet and a top sheet. These two components are both self-adhesive and can be laid as a free-floating subfloor. These sheets are also damp proof which means that they stop damp rising from the ground which the existing flooring would be particularly susceptible to. The Jumpax system is a great solution for problem floors like this one.

Once the sheets were down, we then had to level out the floor using eco-friendly Eco Pearls. They are levelling grains that fill in hollows, cracks and level height differences. In this instance they were also great for their thermal properties. In one of the photographs you can see the grains being spread out over the floor.

The next part of the process involved laying 10 mil concrete boards over the floor and then a second board on top which creates a structurally sound floor. We then had to screed all the concrete areas. Again, you can see each stage of the process from the photographs included as well as what the original floor looked like after we stripped everything back.

Once the subfloor was in place and had been professionally prepared, we were then able to install the Amtico Flooring. Our clients chose Oak from the Amtico flooring range and it was laid in a parquet design. As an Amtico fitter in Stockport, we know that while it’s a traditional pattern, it is versatile enough to suit a range of different styles within a home fitting in perfectly in a classic or modern setting.

As an Amtico fitter in Stockport we can talk you through the range of Amtico flooring options available and what might be best suited to your needs.
